50 Cent -Complicated: This is my jam right now. The Lost Tape is really starting to grow on me. This track here reminds me a lot of Hustler’s Ambition, which is a very good thing. Video looks like Fif’s bout to get back on his early 2000s shit. Bulletproof vests, du-rags, & Louisville Sluggers. Aiiight.

Check out the mixtape here. He’s not breaking any molds or anything but most tracks are solid & a few are certified bangers. First time I heard it, I was like “hm, OK”. But I downloaded it about a week after that, and after a few spins it’s stayed in rotation. I know Get Busy  is pretty much I Get Money all over again, but that hasn’t stopped me from rappin about the ”canarie yellow rocks in my raaang” as I walk down the street with my headphones in.

If you’re a 50 fan at all, you’re gonna like this.

P.S. This is definitely a discussion for another day, but could you make the argument that 50 Cent is “underground” now?

Dope Shit You Might’ve Missed

Blu & Madlib visuals for Jesus. This is real nice, man.

Ras Kass dropped a video for Holes in the Ozone too. Rasy’s been doin this for so long, and still sounds fresh.

Speaking of someone who’s been in the game for a minute- Erick Sermon’s new track is DOPE.

Did you miss the DMX interview on the Breakfast Club the other day? It’s great. The Dog is back.

That got me in my original Murder Inc zone: Jay-Z, Ja Rule, and X if you were unaware.

Karmaloop started a new word association style freestyle series; they kicked it off with this Skyzoo session.

Had to follow Sky up with two classic freestyles in the same vein:

OK, that’s it for now- I’ll catch ya’ll in the AM. Until then:

Whoa, this new Erick Sermon with Keith Murray & 50 Cent is wicked dope. I’m really liking this one. Saw an interview with E the other day where he was talking about how he’s got what it takes to make relevant music in any era. If he keeps making stuff like this, then I’m all for it. This is off the Breathe of Fresh Air mixtape, and it is.

50 Cent just dropped a new mixtape a couple hours ago, for the 10th anniversary of 50 Cent is the Future. This is one of the better songs on the first listen through. There’s a couple others that start good but fizzle out- they might grow on me & you might here ‘em here eventually. For now, its this track and a couple others. I’ll definitely be giving it another listen later, and you can check it out yourself here.

Thoughts?

Rise & Grind. Gotta have that Hustler’s Ambition. This is probably my favorite 50 song. Such a dope beat, and some sick flow/lyric combos. I mean imagine if someone today was talking bout “chia pet plants in the crib- that’s chronic!”- you’d be hearin’ about their “swag” non stop. This shit’s just straight confidence. Banger.

What You May Have Missed This Week

New J. Cole, off the Sideline Story. One of the standout tracks off the album.

This song’s been growing on me. Catchy beat, good collection of verses.

Pusha T DOES NOT want to be fucked with & he let’s people know on this one.

50, on the other hand loves beef. He takes shots at Wayne & Game over this soul track.

New 50 - goin hard at Game & Wayne over some smooth soul samples. If you liked vintage Fif at all, you’re gonna love this track. I know he’s trying to stay ahead with the pop/club shit, but this is where he’s best. Grimy. You think either of em will respond?
